Thank you for your interest in the New Hampshire Art Association's 43rd Annual Jack Parfitt Open Juried Photography Exhibition. Located at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth, NH, this exhibit is one of NHAA's most prestigious exhibits of the year. It is held annually in honor of Jack Parfitt, one of NHAA’s founders, to commemorate his photographic excellence.

ELIGIBILITY:
• Open to photographers only.
• 1-3 entries per artist.
• Open to all regional artists - NHAA Members & Non-Members.
• All works must be original and available to exhibit during the Exhibition Period.

• EXHIBITION PERIOD: Wednesday, Aug. 3 – Sun. Aug 28
• RECEPTION AND AWARD CEREMONY: Fri. Aug. 5, 5-8 pm, at the NHAA Gallery.

• DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: Tuesday, July 5, 11:59 p.m.
• NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTED SUBMISSIONS: Monday, July 18.
• DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED SUBMISSIONS: Sun. July 31 4-6 p.m. and Mon. Aug. 1 9 a.m. -6 p.m.
• PICK-UP OF ACCEPTED SUBMISSIONS: Sun. Aug. 28 4-6 p.m. and Mon. Aug. 29 9 a.m. -6 p.m.
*Accepted work must be picked up and dropped off at the NHAA Gallery in Portsmouth, NH.
*Artists will be notified of drop off and pick up times on the dates specified.
*We do not provide courier services.
*Accepted artwork that is not delivered by the delivery date will not be included in the exhibition.
JURY PROCESS:
• All work will be juried in digital format.
• Artists will be notified of jury results via email.
AWARDS/PRIZES:
• 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be awarded.
• Lotte Jacobi Award presented by Gary Samson
Honorable mentions will also be selected.
ENTRY FEE:
• NHAA Members: One submission: $20 / Two submissions: $25, Three submissions: $30
• Non-members: One submission: $40 / Two submissions: $45, Three submissions: $50
• Students: NHAA member price with valid student ID (email image of ID or bring at drop off).
• Payments received via online (preferred) or via check or cash.
o Online: Please visit nhartassociation.org. On the home page, click on the button for the Call to Art for Parfitt. Once on the
Parfitt page, select entry fee in the dropdown menu, then click on the “ADD TO CART” button to enter credit card information.
o Check or Cash: Pay in person or mail to New Hampshire Art Association, 136 State St, Portsmouth, NH 03801. If paying by
check, indicate in comments section “Entry Fee for Parfitt”.
* Must pay entry fee prior to entering submissions.
• Entry Fees are non-refundable.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
• Please visit nhartassociation.org home page and click on the Parfitt call to art button for instructions on submitting your pieces via
the ArtCall system.
• In addition to information about your work, you will be required to submit a jpeg digital image of each entry.
• Submission image attachments must be under 4 mg, with minimum of 1920 pixels and a maximum of 4800 pixels on the longest
side.
• Finished dimensions of actual work must not exceed 50" in the longest direction including frame.
• NHAA exhibits only original works of art, conceived and created by the artist submitting the work.
• All work must be professionally framed and finished front and back and must comply with the NHAA Presentation and Framing
Policies outlined below.
• Artwork must not have already been displayed in a previous Parfitt exhibition or a previous NHAA juried exhibition.
• If your work is accepted, you agree to allow NHAA to use your image for PR/Advertising such as print, website, Facebook etc.
• NHAA reserves the right to decline artwork that is substantially different than the image submitted or work that is deemed
inappropriate for its audiences.

SALES:
* All work must be for sale. NHAA retains 40% commission on work sold.
* If your work is accepted, you agree to allow NHAA to exhibit your work both in our main gallery and in an online gallery to provide
additional visibility and increased opportunity for sales for the duration of the exhibit, should we choose to do so.
LIABILITY:
• NHAA will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any work from any cause. Submitting work will imply agreement on the
part of the artist with this condition.
NHAA PRESENTATION & FRAMING POLICIES
Policies apply to all NHAA exhibitions, including both on and offsite locations. NHAA exhibits only original works of art. They must be conceived/created by the artist. Customers who purchase art from a professional art organization, such as the NHAA, should receive artwork that is professionally framed and finished, front and back. It is the sole responsibility of the artist to abide by current trademark and copyright laws. Copyright infringement will result in the loss of NHAA membership.
Works on Paper:
• Artist must indicate edition size and number on any and all edition work. The NHAA exhibits only original works of art. If it is an open edition, please state that clearly.
• All works on paper should be framed and matted or lifted away from the glass with archival matting or spacers.
• Frames and mats must be clean, professionally cut/constructed, and undamaged.
• At delivery, all works must be wired and ready to hang. Saw tooth hangers, Pop-in frames, free standing frames NOT accepted,
Works on Canvas:
• Works on canvas do not need to be framed as long as sides of canvas are clean, or finished with a strip frame.
• Surface and corners should be taut, wrinkle-free, and free of visible threads or staples.
• At delivery, all works must be wired and ready to hang.
• All work must be completely dry.
Works on other:
• Works on Artboard, Masonite, wood, acrylic, glass, metal, etc. must follow the above requirements.
**Presentation must be clean and professionally presented. Artwork that does not meet these requirements will not be displayed. The NHAA Gallery Manager reserves the curatorial right to remove any artwork that does not meet gallery standards.**
By entering submissions on ArtCall the artist agrees to follow the NHAA Framing Guidelines and further agrees to the NHAA Exhibition Agreement which governs the rights and obligations of the artist and the NHAA. ABOUT THE JUROR:
Stephen DiRado
Stephen DiRado is a professor in the Studio Art Program at Clark University, Stephen has over 40 years experience in the field of documentary photography. He is a recipient of a 2012 Simon Guggenheim, 2019 Diane Fund, Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Massachusetts Artist Foundation. DiRado’s photographs can be found in public and private collections; MFA, Boston, John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, MFA, Houston. He has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Vice Magazine, National Geographic, National Public Radio; internationally, Geo Wissen Magazine, DE, Daily Mail, UK, Royal Photographic Society Journal, UK, and The Conversation, UK. DiRado’s book With Dad, published by Davis Publications in 2019, illustrates a loving and changing relationship between father and son as Stephen’s father succumbs to Alzheimer’s.
ABOUT JACK PARFITT:
Jack Parfitt was active in his community as well as an adventurer and expert photographer who spent his last 12 years traveling extensively. His travels included Russia, China, Afghanistan, Morocco and Iceland and Africa. He was given unheard of permission to photograph the Great Wall of China. He shared his art with the community and state by composing a series of slides and lecture presentations. Jack was a board member of the New Hampshire Art Association and is honored each year through this memorial art exhibit in his name. His art was displayed at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth, NH.
ABOUT LOTTE JACOBI:
Lotte Jacobi is widely considered to be one of premiere photographers of the 20th century photographing an impressive array of intellectuals, cultural figures and celebrities such as Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, Robert Frost, J.D. Salinger and Paul Robeson. Jacobi immigrated from Germany in 1935, after working in her father’s photography studio for many years. She set up a studio and gallery in New York City and in 1955 moved to Deering, NH to live with her son. Eventually Jacobi purchased an old logger cabin in Deering and her small gallery showed such art luminaries as Louise Nevelson, Minor White and Leo Katz. She became active in the promotion of cultural politics in New Hampshire lobbying for the establishment of a photography department at the Currier Museum in Manchester. The department was established in 1970-71 and Jacobi was active at the museum as an honorary curator. Jacobi received first prize in the annual arts prizes awarded from the New Hampshire Art Association in 1970 and was a long-time member. Due to her support photography was accepted at NHAA as a fine art. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts Degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1974 along with the first New Hampshire Governor’s Award for the Arts in 1980. Before her death in 1990 she arranged for the University of New Hampshire to take her collection of negatives, letters and papers for their archives.
